REINTERPRETING OUR VERY FIRST SCHOOL

Mallya Aditi was a very meaningful project for us. It was our first school!

after winning a competition in 1990, Aditi was conceptualised and designed with several different experiences in mind.

Now in 2021 the extension of the first floor is complete. Since the old structure was a 30 year old, load bearing building we decided to build a steel structure on the first floor. To further reduce the weight we used aerocon panels for the walls and a combination of sheet roofs and fabric roofs. Adressing light and ventilation was very important. We used a system of clerestory windows and balconies to recreate the quality of light and ease of ventilation in the old school. Keeping the feeling of the old Aditi design in mind we reinterpreted it as modern structure in the modern context.
